May in the Caribbean

There are so many festivals and events in the Caribbean in May, you’ll be hard pressed to decide where to spend your time. The month of May rocks, with music festivals in the British Virgin Islands, , among others. Those of you who love sailing or diving are in luck too, with May events for sport lovers.

British Virgin Islands

The BVI Music Fest takes place each year on the island of Tortola. You can stay on the island, take the ferry or even charter your own yacht to enjoy the tunes on this one. Be prepared to stay up late; acts perform well in to the night.

Cayman Islands

Carnival Batabano
is celebrated on the Cayman Islands each May on both Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. Batabano celebrates the diverse African and religious influences of the region, and includes a smorgasbord of costumes, music, dance and pageantry. This is where you can check out all of the ridiculously elaborate costumes during the parades.

Grenada

The Grenada Drum Festival brings the island of Grenada to life each may, with drummers from around the Caribbean and the world landing on the island to jam. This festival, located in Tivoli, offers you the chance to see displays of traditional drumming, dancing and rituals surrounding the drums, as well as participate in workshops in dance and drumming.

St. Lucia

The St. Lucia Jazz Festival shakes things up for several weeks on the island of St. Lucia each May. This is one mother of a music festival, with acts performing at several locations around the island. Many events are free, making the St. Lucia Jazz Fest even more tempting.
