Barbancourt Rum Distillery

Barbancourt Rum Distillery in Haiti? If you are looking to see how traditional rum is a made, a stop into the Barbancourt Rum Distillery is a must. This popular Haitian tourist spot produces some of the highest quality rum in the world. There are over two dozen unique varieties to try from mango and orange to coffee and hibiscus.

The distillery is located on the northern outskirts of Port au Prince. In order to get a tour you will need to make an appointment. One can not just casually stroll up and expect a tour. For the most part you are going to want to get tour sometime from December until June. Those are the peak months for rum production, and going at another time you may not get to see a whole lot. Generally a tour will give you an in depth look into the goings on inside the distillery so that you can see exactly how the rum is made.

What To Expect On Your Tour

Expect to see exactly how the rum from Barbancourt is made. My tour guide was a supervisor at the plant and he went into exact details of how their rum was produced. He told me what sugar canes were used, where they came from, and how the different types of recipes were produced. You can expect to see all of the inner workings of the distillery and how they come to make their rum.

Hours Of Operation

Pretty much tours are offered whenever the plant is in active production. Since they are done by appointment this will vary. Give them a call and see if you can schedule one for a time that is convenient for you.

Admission Cost

While there is no cost for the tour, it is expected that you would purchase some of the rum after they are done.

How To Get There

Travel from Port au Prince past the edge of the Plaine du Cul de Sac. Travel north out of town past the industrial estates through a typical Haitian countryside.T
